"Those were great days and the music was so exciting and fresh.
I wish I could go back and hear some of the bands of that day.
Caught Teagarden and Vanwinkle with Gary Busey on drums at
the Nine of Cups, some of Leon and JJ Cale as well. What a great
time to be in Tulsa!

"The Gap was in an old house downtown (where the Doubletree now stands)
and I think it was open @ 1968, maybe '67. The genesis of many Tulsa bands
was there; it's where I first met David Tanner, Rick Durbin, Steve Bailey and the
guys from the Hallucinations, Jim Byfield, etc. Pepperland was a great place
it was upstairs @ 38th and Peoria and was owned by Wendell Brown, Tony Brown
(no relation) and Captain America, AKA Steve Robertson. It was open, I think, the
fall/winter of 1970."

(Note: Margi is talking about the 2nd formation of the Hallucinations, reformed by Rick Durbin.)

I remember Sundog. They formed after Rick Durbin broke up the Hallucinations.
I think Carl Suggs was a member. I think he was the lead singer.
They were really good but they didn't stay together very long.

Here's a brain teaser....does anyone remember who won the KAKC Pepsi Battle
of the Bands in April of 1968 which was held at the Civic Center???
It was the New Rivieras. I was the drummer and I am trying to contact any of the band
members who are Kreg Kallenberger, Jim Parmley, Mike Psalidas and Gary Hardesty. Does
anyone have a line on any of these guys? The last contact I have is with Kreg Kallenberger
several year ago. I would like to know how all my friends are getting along these days.
Please e-mail me if you have any knowledge of whereabouts of my former bandmates.
Thank you Tulsans. JMK

Noted jazz and blues songwriter and guitarist Verbie Gene Terry,
who was best known as “Flash” Terry. Fans also called him the
“Bus Driver Bluesman” because he worked for Oklahoma’s
Metropolitan Tulsa Transit Authority for more than 30 years.
In 1988, Oklahoma Gov. Henry Bellmon awarded Terry and his
band a state of excellence award and, in 1994, he was inducted
into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. In 2003.

The Danelectro Guitar

"Professional guitarists have driven up the value
of authentic Danelectros because they cherish
the instrument's unique sound and look. They
have a bell-like tone and a very clean sound.
But non-professionals, many of them nostalgic
baby boomers, are also entranced. There's the
show-off, cool aspect to owning one. And the
rareness. They have a sound, look and color
all their own".

Special Thanks to: Dan Guitars
